Description

The Shalita New Agave Pro is a handcrafted professional oboe reed with a bright, focused tone and excellent projection. Made by Joseph Shalita, Principal Oboist of the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra since 2004, in the direct tradition of Marcel Tabuteau and the Philadelphia oboe school.

Playing Characteristics Resistance: Medium. Opening: Medium. Bright, clear tone with strong projection. Responds well across the full dynamic range. A good choice for players who want clarity and presence in a large hall or outdoor performance setting. These reeds tend to have a bit more in them than the Shalita Black Label reeds. I tend to think of them a bit more on the Mack side of things.

Who It’s For Professional oboists and advanced students who prefer a brighter, more projecting sound. Players performing concertos, solo recitals, or outdoor concerts where clarity and projection are priorities.

Who It’s Not For Beginning and intermediate players. If you’re still developing embouchure control start with the Mimosa Student or Red Label Intermediate and work up.

The Maker Every New Agave Pro is handmade by Joseph Shalita — 35+ years as a professional orchestral oboist, graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and Mannes College of Music, trained by Joseph Turner (Principal Oboe, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and John Ferrillo (Principal Oboe, Boston Symphony Orchestra). Not a factory reed. Hand-scraped to specification.
