Description
The Shalita Mimosa 2 Intermediate is a handcrafted American long-scrape oboe reed made in the Philadelphia/Tabuteau tradition, designed for advancing players developing their tone and embouchure control. Made by Joseph Shalita, Principal Oboist of the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra since 2004, in the direct lineage of Marcel Tabuteau — the father of the American oboe school.
Playing Characteristics Resistance: Medium-light. Opening: Medium to slightly open. Warm, centered tone with reliable response and stable intonation. The Philadelphia style produces a reed with focus and clarity — ideal for students learning to shape their sound and develop consistent tone production.
Who It’s For Advancing students and intermediate players working on tone production, intonation, and repertoire demands. Players who want the warmth and focus of the Philadelphia style without the demands of a fully professional reed.
Who It’s Not For Complete beginners. Start with the Mimosa Student or WR Profiled Beginner first. Professional players should look at the Red Label Intermediate or Black Label Pro.
The Maker Every Mimosa 2 Intermediate is handmade by Joseph Shalita — 35+ years as a professional orchestral oboist, graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and Mannes College of Music, trained by Joseph Turner (Principal Oboe, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra) and John Ferrillo (Principal Oboe, Boston Symphony Orchestra). Not a factory reed. Hand-scraped to specification.
